Digital Artifacts and Perceptions

New Description: This artifact to me seems as if it is showing all aspects of love and solitude as well as the contrasts of it, specifically in India by including art of people talking, a man and woman most likely a couple in the distance, and a woman with nobody sitting near the people interacting showing all types of feelings connected to love and solitude in India both good and bad for women and men.

Before I changed the description one may have perceived this artifact to be a display of people in India who simply aren’t happy with their life based on the positioning of everyone’s head being titled downward as if they are looking down in sadness. However, when looking at it that way people may undermine the idea that this is about love in India based on the idea that many women are obligated to marry a man in arranged marriage which highlights why most of the women in the artifact don’t look necessarily happy conveying the pain obligation and isolation that comes with something that is supposed to be happy.

The argument made before I changed the description may be that many people in India may not be happy based on their ways of life. However, after changing the description, the argument being made is that due to the culture present in India something intimate and happy such as marriage may be an obligation for women creating sadness, pain, and regret within them ultimately showing how women in India could be torn between their own happiness and others since arranged marriage still occurs in India most especially during the time this artifact was created. The argument after the description was changed highlights that women in India feel obligated to marry creating a sense of despair and loneliness within them since something that is supposed to be for happiness, marriage, is becoming something to be afraid of or unprepared for since only women understand this feeling, showing how women can’t go to men or others who are older since most to all people around them have gone through with arranged marriage without divorce since this is common in India.
